“Happiness is not a destination, but a way to travel”
In my journey to become a KonMari ™ Consultant and coach, I have learned the importance of our history and our past. I also learned to respect and preserve the value of the things that have been part of our life. Remembering the start of an experience or the first time you had something is key to understanding the why of that purchase or experience. I personally believe that everything that happens in our life has a meaning and a reason for being. So, for me, this “before” is very important!
Then the experience with the object and / or the situation begins. We share things, we face our expectations in relation to reality, we learn, we fall in love with the object and / or the situation or we get angry. We have to adapt, make changes, let go of the old ideals, we have to learn, we have to adapt to the use of the new object or the new environment. Whatever path we have travelled, this « during » part is also, from my point of view, a very exciting and important part because it is where we learn the most and the one which allows us to grow.
Finally, we come to the next period. We end the experience with the object and / or the situation. We are reaching our goal. We finish what we started. We arrive at the final result. We have arrived at this “after” for which we have worked so much. Most of the time we think the job is done. On the contrary There may be another after. There is always a chance that we have to start from scratch. We always have the opportunity to reuse an object or start a new situation, to find another use for the thing or to reinvent ourselves.
I want to share with you a personal project (by applying the KonMari ™ method) which brought me great joy:
My new home office
For the past few weeks, I have become a KonMari ™ consultant and full-time coach. I am no longer a part-time consultant for EU projects!!! I started to reinvent myself. Four years ago, during a trip to Japan, I discovered that being a storage coach was my “Ikigai”. So here I am! I became an independent organization and wellness expert. I am now doing the job of my dreams: Supporting people in their own search for their Ikigai. And the icing on the cake is that my main office (when I’m not away from my clients) is at home.
I have a lot of work space at home: my little desk in the guest bedroom, my husband’s desk in the living room, the garden table in summer. But in the end I wanted to have a happier place, a specific place that I can call “my own little office”.
For this I wanted to use my former “secretary desk” (whom I received from a colleague 10 years ago). This desk now brings me a lot of joy!
So I decided to let my creativity express itself! And Bingo! I found the perfect place: My girls’ playroom!! So here is the image of “Before” on one side of the playroom where we store the toys:
I just moved Clara’s (my 6-year-old daughter) toys to set up my desk in the middle of the closet. The result made me really happy. But I knew I could make the place more fun, more fun. So “during” the time we were arranging the toys for Sofia and Clara, I explained to my husband what paint colour I wanted and then we all started the work together. I was sure that this rearrangement was a great idea because at the same time I was going to resolve a situation that has always been a concern at home: the girls wanted to be next to me. Being together in the playroom allowed me to solve this problem but at the same time it gave me the space I needed to work. The unexpected result is that I can work alongside them without being interrupted!
Here is Dominique (My lovely husband) painting the room for me!
The image of the « after » is the one that makes me the happiest, not only thanks to this new work experience as a KonMari™ Consultant & coach, but also because I receive the good energy from my old desk, from the games room, from my daughters, I can see my garden. I even have unexpected visitors (see the photo of the my neighbour cat here).
Our playroom / my new office has become the starting point of a dream come true! A magical place full of joy and happiness.
I cordially invite you to look at the photos “before, during and after” of some of the sessions with my lovely clients:
