The KonMari Method

Tidying not only has the power to organize our homes but also to transform our lives by making us realize what really matters to us.

Marie Kondo

Who is Marie Kondo?

Marie Kondo is the author of the best-selling book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing » and “Spark Joy: An Illustrated Guide to the Japanese Art of Tidying” (over 6 million copies sold worldwide) This Japanese women has been listed as one of Time’s “100 most influential people”, and her method has changed the life of millions of people around the world.

What is The KonMari Method?

KonMari (Kon: for her family name Kondo and Mari for her name Marie) It is a tidying up method, a new way of living, a philosophy, a mindset, a funny way of folding clothes, a Japanese style of tidying up, … there are so many definitions and descriptions of this method as people in the world.

In my personal point of view the KonMari Method it is a life-changing experience. That start with a very simple question: What is the lifestyle I want to have?  followed but another simple principle: Keep only what sparks joy for you!

Why this method unique and so successful?

Traditionally in our western cultures, when we decide to arrange our home we start by throwing away what we do not like anymore. By doing this, our brain focus on the things we do not like and at the end of the day we feel bad, tired, even sad. The KonMari method proposes us to start by choosing to keep only what spark joy for us (And this is if for me the key point of the success of her method). By selecting the things that made us happy our brain changes its focus and we shift to look only for the things that made us happy, so we become a happier person.

Another key point of the method is that KonMari proposes us to tidy by categories (clothes, books, papers, Komono, and sentimental items) and not by place. So we can have a clear vision of the number of objects of the same categories we have.

The method proposes also to give a place to each object in our house and to fold the clothes in a way they can « stand » by themselves and be kept in a horizontal way.

The magic of this method is that it can be applied by everybody, everywhere in the world and that it helps you to find your own “Ikigai” reason for being in your life.

I will be really happy to share my experience and the experience of my clients when applying this method. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any question regarding KonMari.

Kind regards,

Eli
